Statement of faith | God’s Power Evangelical Church Gorinchem

At God’s Power Evangelical Church Gorinchem, our beliefs are grounded in the eternal truths of God’s Word. This statement of faith outlines the core principles that guide our mission, worship, and daily lives as followers of Jesus Christ.

God

We believe that Yahweh, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, is the One and only true God in heaven and on earth and under the earth. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. God exists eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is the only One sent by God the Father to save humanity from sin. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. Without Jesus Christ, no one can come to God. We believe in the deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His vicarious and atoning death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, and His ascension to the right hand of God the Father. We also believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is personally coming back in all power and glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit.  He is one of the three persons of the Godhead. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian. The Holy Spirit empowers the Believer for Godly living and service. 

The Bible

We believe all scripture in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, as originally given by God, to be the fully inspired and infallible word of God. We believe the Bible to be entirely trustworthy and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

Mankind

We believe in the universal sinfulness and guilt of all humanity since the Fall, making every person subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

Salvation

We believe that we are saved solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus. We believe that redemption through the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are absolutely necessary for the salvation of the Sinner.

The Church

We believe in the spiritual unity of all the believers in Christ Jesus and these believers comprise the universal Church, the Body of Christ.

Ministries

We believe in the ministries that Christ has given to His Church, namely, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, and in the present operation of the various gifts of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the New Testament.

Miraculous Healing

We believe in the miracles, signs and wonders demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. Our God can heal all sicknesses and diseases. Therefore, we believe that miraculous healings, signs and wonders are still present-day phenomena and not something of the past.

The Great Commission

We believe that the gospel provides a way through which man could be reconciled to God. The Church is therefore commissioned to preach the gospel to the whole world and to fulfil a ministry of healing and deliverance to the physical and spiritual needs of mankind.

Ordinances

We believe in the baptism of believers (by immersion of the whole person in water) in obedience to the commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ. We also believe in the observance of the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Christ’s death on the cross.

The Future State

We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the final judgment of the world. The righteous will receive eternal blessings while the wicked will receive eternal punishment.
